1. Why should we chose Malady Homes LLC over other Painters and Home Improvement Companies?
a. Malady Homes LLC is a family owned business. We have been doing this for over 20 years. Our name is on every job we do. We care about our reputation and word of mouth is the way our business survives and has grown. We believe we must earn your business every day. The owners are Mud Island residents and we know the challenges of home ownership, upkeep and repair. Our job is to do those improvements and repairs so you can enjoy your timeoff and weekends.
2. Do you have all the necessary credentials?
a. Yes. See attached file at the bottom to review.
3. Why is using a licensed and insured company important?
a. If you use a guy who works out of the back of his truck there are several risk you are taking. 1) You might not ever find him again when there is a problem. 2) Accidents do happen. If the "back of the truck guy" breaks a window or damages your floor then you are stuck with the problem. 3) If he falls off a ladder while on your property and he doesnt have WC or GL insurance, you could and most likely would be held liable for his injuries. The slightly higher price you may or may not pay for a insured company is worth it. In fact, its dangerous not to.
4. Are you competitive in price?
a. Absolutley. We offer free estimates on project work, use signed agreements so you know exactly what you are getting, with NO hidden or surprise charges ( Many individuals and companies make their profit this way. Bid low and upcharge or leave you hanging) We often match the "Guy out of his truck" price but, but we always do a quality job at a fair price. If we do find something we think you should do that was not quoted, we will show it to you, explain why we think but offer no pressure. Our job is to inform and do what you hired us to do. We will not perform work without your approval.
Example: Recently we quoted a job to replace some rotten siding on a front porch of a Mud Island home. The quote to replace the siding and paint to match was $425.00 (Also included a rotten column). The home owner stated that he had another quote from a "Father and Sons" Home Improvement company for $350.00. I told him that I could not do it for that price and he went with the "Father & Sons" company. Since he lives near by on Mud Island, I saw the finished job. The rotten siding was cut out and replaced with a siding that "almost" matches but has a noticable grain difference and instead of replacing the entire row of siding, the "Father and Sons" team just replaced the rotten spot in the middle of the row. So not only does the Home Owner now have extra seams in the siding right when you walk to the front door, it also does not match and it looks like a patch job. We could have done that for less that $350.00 but I never would have. We will not take those kind of short cuts nor quote them. Why? Because the results are never good and the home owner will not be satisfied with the result. For $75.00 more, the porch would look like it did when the home was built and not some hacked up patch job.
5. Does the Strike Master Home Security Plate really work? And how does it work?
a. The video links you see are real. I have actually tested this product myself before I became a authorized dealer. I use this product on my own home and my rental properties. This product has received police endorsements and a edorsement from the Executive Producer of the Discovery Channels " To Catch a Thief" television program. If you have seen the video on the "Stop Burglary" page, then you know that your dead bolt lock sits in a 1/2 deep hole and there is 1/2 inch of soft door wood holding it in the door. As you have seen, this is easily busted with a kick. The Strike Master security plate works on the same principle as Snow Shoes. Snow Shoes? Yes. When you walk on snow you sink deep into the snow because all your weight (force) is focused in two spots, your feet. Snow shoes spread this weight out over a wide area and your are able to walk on snow. The Strike Master does the same thing. It is a 5 foot steel plate that fits over your existing door frame. It is secured with 5 inch wood screws that go deep into the door framing. When a door is kicked now, the force is spread over 5 feet of space with anchors deep into the framing. This makes a door impossible to kick in.
6. Can't a burglar just break a window?
a. Yes. If someone really wants in, there is nothing that can stop them. FBI stats show that a average home burglary takes 3-5 minutes. A good police response is 15 minutes. Burglars look for a easy house and no resistance. Broken glass leads to cuts and injuries and is usually avoided. 80% of all home invasions and burglaries are the result of a kicked in door. After a kick or two, too much attention is drawn and the burglar will just move on.
7. Do you do full remodels?
a. Yes we do. See Home Improvement picture page for samples of some of our work. We have tile, carpet, flooring guys as well as plumbers, electricians and carpenters on staff as well as the Handyman for those simple jobs.
8. What are handman services?
a. We have built baby cribs for single moms, hung ceiling fans and light fixtures, changed high light bulbs and fixed garage doors. When you add the time it takes to call a plumber, a elecrician and a garage door guy, pay the cost of each plus scheduling them then you can see what a valuable service this is.
9. Do you take Credit cards or do financing?
a. Yes to both. We can take credit cards through PayPal (it's free to sign up. If you don't already have an account, all you need is a email address and CC. Go to www.Paypal.com). There is a slight upcharge to cover the cost of credit card usage. We are affliliated with First Tennessee Home Improvment Loans for those wishing to finance.
